Michal Hromek studied classical guitar at the Pardubice Conservatory. In his own compositions, in which he utilises not only solo guitar but also various chamber ensembles, you can find traces of classical, folk, jazz and acoustic rock music but also strong influence of Rennaisance lute pieces and other Early Music styles. So far he has recorded seven CD albums containing his original compositions and also his instrumental arrangements of folk themes from Ireland, Britain and Moravia and many arrangements of harp themes by legendary Turlough O?Carolan /1670 ? 1738/. His CELTIC GUITAR album was awarded a gold disk in Canada in 1997. On recordings, concerts and TV appearences he has collaborated with various artists, e.g. Gerald Garcia, Jean-Jacques Fdida, Martin Mysliveček, Jaroslav Šindler, Tom Daun or Jura Pavlica. He currently performs and records with a guitar duo of his own (Celtic Guitar) and the quartet (guitar, flute, violin/viola, percussion/vibes) called Michal Hromek Consort. He also co-operates with an actress and singer Hana Frejkova and the group Prager Tandlmarkt specializing in songs in Yidish.
